AMPERAGE –
Making e-mobility easy in public transport
Zero emissions, quieter buses, more attractive towns and cities: the future of public transport is electric.
AMPERAGE allows buses to be charged economically at junctions or turning loops, even while passengers are boarding and alighting (opportunity charging). The pros: the range is doubled and the bus can drive for longer and does not have to return to the depot before time.
Pros of third-party charging compared to depot charging
With depot charging, the bus is fitted with a very large battery which is charged overnight in the bus depot. In contrast to this, a smaller battery is used in opportunity charging and is recharged en-route during stopping times. The reduced weight means that more passengers can be transported. Smaller batteries are much cheaper and are kept in an optimal charge state during route charging, which goes easy on the battery.
Faster charging, greater vehicle flexibility and increased economy
Made possible by pantograph or CCS
AMPERAGE lets you use a pantograph to quickly and easily charge up to 500 kW during breaks of 2-3 minutes. This means an increase in range of up to almost 12.5 miles per charge.
During breaks at turning loops, a bus can be charged at up to 350 kW, which means an additional electric range of up to over 60 miles, depending on the break time.
Allowing battery-electric buses to run in rural and urban areas
The limited range of battery-electric buses is a major hurdle for many transport companies. Full urban and rural independence: AMPERAGE allows effective opportunity charging to take place even if not enough electricity is available at the bus stop.
Combination with tram recuperation possible
Currently, the recuperation power from braking trams in German cities is hardly used at all and inefficiently released into the environment as heat. AMPERAGE allows this energy to be stored efficiently and then released again at maximum charging power when e-buses are charged en-route. This significantly reduces operating costs.
Electrifying bus lines with AMPERAGE
Eligible for grants
Integration of regenerative energies
Quick and easy to setup
Lower investment and operating costs make for maximum profitability
AMPERAGE allows load peaks to be smoothed out when charging en-route and the 15-minute average value to be paid (demand rate) is reduced by up to 35 percent. At the same time, no superfluous grid upgrade costs ensue. Take advantage of the opportunity to maximize the cost-efficiency of battery-electric buses in public transport!
Smooth the way for
economical opportunity charging
where existing power lines are insufficient
Reliable even under extreme conditions
As a mechatronic energy store and unlike comparable technologies, AMPERAGE is subject to almost no degradation due to cold, heat and high utilization. This makes it perfect for heavy-duty applications in local public transport, where high reliability despite heavy demands is a core requirement.
How AMPERAGE works
AMPERAGE charges electricity from the grid, stores it temporarily and releases it again with many times the power – similar to the operating principle used by a hydroelectric power station.
